ADVISORY: Coalition Supporting Sales Tax Increase to Fund Water Quality & Conservation to be Announced
(DES MOINES) – On Monday, September 12th at 10:00 a.m. in Des Moines a broad-based coalition of leaders representing conservationists, farmers, sportspeople, business interests and the people of Iowa will launch a new, larger and stronger Iowa’s Water and Land Legacy coalition supporting increasing in the sales tax to finally fund the Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund.
Our co-chairs who will be announced at the press conference will be:
- Mark Doll – Doll Distributing
- Jan Glendening– Iowa State Director of The Nature Conservancy
- Tammi Kircher– Chairwoman of Iowa Ducks Unlimited
- Kirk Leeds– CEO of the Iowa Soybean Association
The Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund was passed with 63% of the vote in November 2010. Today the fund sits empty because it requires a sales tax increase of at least 3/8ths of a cent for dedicated, protecting funding aimed at cleaning our water, protecting our soil, enhancing our wildlife and outdoor recreation.
As the upcoming debate about water quality continues, this non-partisan group representing all sides of the debate urge legislators and the governor to listen to the will of the people and work together to increase the sales tax to fund the trust fund.
